New York Brooklyn Transfers – Update

This update should certainly be of interest to Cunard passengers who sail to New York on Queen Mary 2 and who wish to travel quickly and cheaply ($2.75 per person one-way) on a new ferry service between Brooklyn’s Red Hook Cruise Terminal and Manhattan…

The NYC Ferry,  operated by a company called Hornblower…

They now run a regular service from the ‘Atlantic Basin’ adjacent the cruise Terminal…

A closer view….

*****

NB. The NYC Ferry only commenced operations in June 2017 after my photographs from QM2 were taken. I have highlighted the position of the jetty above and captured a more recent shot of the installed jetty…

Solent Richard is most  grateful to  fellow Cunard Facebook Fanzine member Adrian for the following recent photographs which clearly illustrate how close the NYC Ferry jetty is to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal…

******

So there we have it. Just exit the Terminal, turn left and follow the pavement for less than  a few minutes…

…and two from Adrian, taken from Queen Mary 2,  that show just how close the NYC Jetty is from the ship…

*****

The service currently runs throughout the week on the following timetable…

Red Hook to Pier 11 Manhattan

and from Pier 11 to Red Hook

*****

As can easily be seen from the above timetables the journey time is just 30 minutes.

Switch all timetables, they can change. This link will provide up to date times and schedules…

On arrival at Pier 11…

…Manhattan is your oyster.

Pier 11 is located in downtown Manhattan on South Street between Wall Street and Gouveneur Lane

The nearest MTA subway is the Wall Street #2 and #3 Station indicated on the above map.

There are no direct transport lines between Pier 11 and say the 9/11 memorial. However a walk along Wall Street, crossing Broadway and past Trinity Church and then right along Greenwich Street will take approximately 18 – 20 minutes.

To reach Pier 11 from the subway just walk down Wall St. 2 blocks to South Street,  turn right onto  South Street and  Pier 11 will be on the left…

  1. Thank you. I always look forward to your blog and this one has great news in it. Very grateful to you for keeping us all up to date.

  2. Thanks. We have been in Brooklyn terminal about 6 times now and getting to / from Manhattan is always a bit of a pain, especially when in transit and need to be back in good time. Getting there is not too bad by cab but return can be a nightmare, sometimes nervously so! Cab drivers are reluctant to accept the booking, they dont like crossing into Brooklyn with little chance of a return fare back. The ferry will be another option. We have another cruise including NY booked, but not sure if it will be Brooklyn this time (not on QM2 this time) and we will bear the ferry in mind. Good to know.
Pier 11 of course is right at the southern end of Manhattan, with many attractions much further north. From experience we know transport is not difficult and an all day ticket can be bought at metro stations.

  4. Dear Solent Richard,

Thank you for becoming an extreme asset here , especially for New Jersey and New York too.

I hope Marty Markowitz gets re-elected soon as he made the Old Salt Pier ( Pier 12) an International Port of Call.

This Ferry ride is inexpensive and money well spent. Each NY Ferry is like the newer ones used in the Islands ( Somers Isles) of Bermuda.

Remember they Fired all the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel Toll Takers now..

You can not even ask direction from the people arriving to get a cruise.

  5. Hello from Alsace, France! So glad that I discovered your blog and it certainly is helping me. I was trying to find out how to get to our hotel after disembarking in Brooklyn from the Queen Mary 2 on 07 june 2019, and happily stumbled upon this page. No one has mentioned this ferry and it certainly seems to be a great alternative to waiting for taxis. I wrote to DIAL 7, and this is their reply: The estimated fare for a Standard vehicle from the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal to 124 E 28 Street is $53.00 not including tip, tolls, wait time, additional stops, or congestion tax. Guess that means it will be around 100$ . Is it easy to find a taxi when we arrive at Pier 11? Our hotel is on 124 E 28th St, New York. Thank you for all this helpful information!

    • Good morning Martine. You will have no problem picking up a taxi from Pier 11 however, have you seen my review of arriving into New York on Queen Mary 2…

      Queen Mary 2 Remastered -Trans-Atlantic

Scroll down to the photograph of ‘Authorised Car Service’ which we used at a fixed rate of $51. Of course we added a tip but the ride was pretty quick. Bon Voyage for next month.

  6. Hi Solent Richard, does the ferry run into the evening back to red hook Brooklyn where our ship will be or does it stop at just after 5 pm as in timetable or is some missing TY
