Friday 9 May 2014 and all three Cunard Queens’ arrive in Southampton to celebrate together the 10th Birthday of Queen Mary 2.
Solent Richard took up position at Hythe Marina to witness the evenings events, this is how my wife and I saw it. We arrived at the Hythe Marina just before 7.00 pm and the crowds were already gathering…
That’s Queen Victoria in the distance at Southampton’s City Terminal…
While Queen Mary 2 was berthed at the Ocean Terminal and Queen Elizabeth at the QEII Terminal…
Having satisfied ourselves that this was a good position to witness the evening’s celebrations we retired to the Boathouse Restaurant for a spot of Dinner.
Our return to the waterfront was well timed as we then witnessed Queen Mary 2 edging out from Ocean Terminal, Queen Victoria having already joined Queen Elizabeth at the QEII Terminal…
Spot on 10.00 pm the firework display started. There were 10 minutes of fireworks, one minute for each year of her life…
and the finale…
There was than the traditional ship’s Horn Salute…
… before Queen Mary 2 sailed past Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth to more Horn Salutes…
She then led Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth down Southampton Water and off on their respective voyages.
An excellent and somewhat emotional evening performance that one has come to expect from Cunard.
Well done Cunard and those that organised this spectacular event.
As usual an excellent post Richard, hope you and Barbara enjoyed the evening, just wish we could have been there too!
Richard and Barbara … boarded the Queen Victoria on April 28; followed by transferring to Queen Mary 2 on May 9. Soooooooo I was here for it all … was absolutely fabulous! Will attend Captain party tonight. Hope Cheryl will be there. Miss you guys … wish you were aboard with me!!!
Thank you Richard. Excellent videos and delighted that you have shared them with everyone. Certainly, a night to remember for you both. Only wish I could have witnessed the event myself.
